My Taiwan Adventure: Finding New Beats Beyond Borders

Hey everyone! Just got back from an awesome trip to Taiwan, where I was checking out the music and gaming scene with an eye toward bringing my sounds to new ears.

Taipei Vibes

Stepping into Taipei felt like entering a city with its own unique rhythm. The blend of traditional temples nestled between modern skyscrapers creates this amazing contrast that instantly got my creative juices flowing.

I spent my first day just wandering around, soaking in the atmosphere and sounds of the city. From the melodic chatter at night markets to the ambient hum of the MRT, every sound became potential inspiration for future tracks.

Gaming Culture Exchange

The main reason for my visit was the Taipei Game Show, and it didn't disappoint! The energy there was incredible – gamers, developers, and artists all sharing their passion in one vibrant space.

What really struck me was how music crosses borders so effortlessly. I had some fantastic conversations with local indie developers who recognized some of my previous work, which was a surreal experience. We ended up jamming about the role of music in creating emotional game experiences, regardless of the language you speak.

Sound Hunting

Between meetings, I went "sound hunting" – my personal term for collecting audio inspirations from new environments. Taiwan offers such a rich tapestry of sounds: traditional temple ceremonies, the sizzle of night market food stalls, and even the unique chimes of their pedestrian crossings!

I recorded some ambient sounds that I'm definitely incorporating into my next projects. There's something special about weaving authentic environmental elements into game music – it adds a layer of realness that's hard to synthesize.

Moving Forward

This trip opened my eyes to how music can connect people across different cultures. Some of the Taiwanese developers I met are interested in collaboration, and I'm excited to see where these connections might lead.

I've returned to my studio in Okinawa with fresh inspiration and new perspectives on my craft. Sometimes you need to step outside your comfort zone to find new dimensions for your art.

Stay tuned for some Taiwan-influenced tracks coming soon – and maybe even some cross-cultural game projects!

PS: Taiwan's bubble tea is seriously next level. I think I had at least one every day. No regrets!
